How to Fit a Toilet Seat
Fitting a toilet seat is a simple job that can be done by anyone. All you need is a few tools and some patience. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to fit a toilet seat.
Step 1: Measure the Toilet Bowl
Before you start, you need to measure the size and shape of your toilet bowl. Most toilet bowls are either round or elongated. You will need to measure the length and width of the bowl to ensure you get the correct size seat. Measure the distance between the two bolt holes at the back of the toilet bowl as well.
Step 2: Choose the Right Toilet Seat
When choosing a toilet seat, make sure you get the right size and shape for your toilet bowl. There are different types of toilet seats available, including wooden, plastic, and soft-close seats. Decide on the type of material you want and whether you want a standard or a soft-close seat.
Step 3: Remove the Old Toilet Seat
To remove the old toilet seat, locate the two bolts on the underside of the seat. Use a wrench or pliers to loosen the nuts holding the bolts in place. Once the nuts are loose, you can pull the bolts out and remove the old seat from the bowl.
Step 4: Clean the Toilet Bowl
Before installing the new seat, take some time to clean the toilet bowl. Use a disinfectant cleaner and a scrub brush to remove any dirt or stains. Rinse the bowl with water and dry it with a towel.
Step 5: Install the New Seat
Place the new seat onto the toilet bowl, lining up the bolt holes with the holes in the bowl. Make sure the seat is aligned straight and level. Insert the bolts into the holes and tighten the nuts underneath with a wrench or pliers. Don’t over-tighten the nuts, as this may crack the seat or the toilet bowl.
Step 6: Test the Seat
Once the seat is fitted, test it to make sure it’s secure and won’t move around. Sit on the seat and wiggle it to check if it’s stable. If it moves, tighten the nuts a bit more until it’s secure.
That’s it! You’ve successfully fitted a toilet seat. With just a few simple steps, you can replace an old or broken toilet seat and give your bathroom a fresh new look. Remember to measure carefully, choose the right seat, and take your time to ensure a perfect fit.
